Energy & Climate

Significant advances in the global approach to energy and climate change have been achieved since the birth of the Kyoto Protocol in 1997.  Industries are facing many challenges as Governments globally contemplate participation in proposed emission trading schemes and related initiatives.  Given the economic impact of a carbon constrained world, and in some cases the looming deadlines industries face, businesses will be affected by the need for new investment and product innovation.  These developments create challenges to industry participants and service providers alike.
Reinforcing these developments in the Asian Pacific region is the recent Australian government commitment to the introduction of a new Emission Trading Scheme (Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme – CPRS). This proposed scheme will complement the mandatory National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act (NGER) which aims to become a single national system for reporting relevant emissions obligations and energy consumption in Australia. These initiatives will create the need to create, develop and implement systems that will facilitate the monitoring, tracking, pricing, trading and reporting of carbon emissions.
